Located in the heart of Beaufort's National Registered Historic District is the Beaufort Historic Site, which depicts 18th and 19th century coastal Carolina. The site consists of eleven buildings, nine of which at historic on almost two acres, including three authentically restored houses built between 1778 and 1825, as well as, the Carteret County Courthouse of 1796, the Carteret County Jail c1829, the Apothecary Shop and Doctors Office c1859 and the c1732 Rustell House the houses the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery. Living history demonstrations, guided tours, authentic English double-decker bus tours and special events vividly describe the lifestyles, customs and architecture unique to this coastal area.
Cape Lookout National Seashore
The Cape Lookout Lighthouse and beautiful beaches can be enjoyed from this breathtaking site. Park Rangers give short programs from the back porch of the Keepers Quarters. Picnic tables, a cross-island boardwalk, a comfort station and a hand-pump for drinking water complete the amenities available. Ferry Service runs from the Beaufort Waterfront and from Harkers Island.

Hop aboard and see Beaufort's Historic District from atop our 1948 English double-decker bus. Lively narrated tours takes riders through the folklore of historic Beaufort on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at 11:00 am and 1:30pm, April through October. Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for children under 12 years old.

For family fun on the Crystal Coast, Golfin’ Dolphin is the place to be! There’s a wide variety of entertainment for the entire family. Enjoy the 18-hole mini golf course, complete with waterfall. Take a turn at the batting cages, or try our bumper boats with water guns and go-karts. Our Kidz Karts are fun for 3- to 6-year olds. Venture to Bear Island and reward yourself with vivid memories of one of the most unspoiled beaches on the Atlantic coast. Accessible only by passenger ferry or private boat, there's just one thing at Hammock's Beach that's crowded, the list of things to do. Stroll the beach with laughing gulls and sandpipers. Cast a baited hook into endless rows of foaming breakers. Discover tiny green and gold grasses that color the salt marshes. Spend the night among the sand dunes, or simply bask in the sun and do nothing at all. Due t sand migration in the channel the ferry uses to transport visitors to Bear Island, the ferry schedule has been changed. Expect delays and cancellations. This fascinating museum is located just a block from the waterfront. It includes a Southern sitting porch, genealogy & history research library, learning center, and gift shop. The museum is home to a remarkable collection of Carteret County artifacts, including Indian relics, vintage clothing, furniture, and other memorabilia. Open Tuesday - Saturday 10 am to 4 pm.

Housed within the historic Rustell House c1732, the art gallery is the oldest in Carteret County. Open year-round, the gallery is located on the grounds of the Historic Site and features the work of over 100 local and regional artists. Diverse works in both medium and style are available for purchase. The gallery is staffed by artists and volunteers and is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm.

Look for special sales at the Shop as the winter holidays approach. It has a wide variety of hand-woven rugs and place mats, carved duck decoys, hand-dipped beeswax candles, hand-woven baskets, children's toys, unique gifts and books on Beaufort and North Carolina. Members of the Beaufort Historical Association receive a 10% discount on Old Beaufort Shop merchandise.

Majestic Live Oak trees enshroud the historic gravesites within this cemetery listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A guide leads groups through the cemetery, telling tales of its "inhabitants." Tours are offered from June through September on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 2:30 pm. For a minimal donation, brochures for self-guided tours are offered year-round in the BHA Visitors Center at 130 Turner Street. Tours are $8 for adults, $4 for children under 12 years old.

The BHA's Visitor Information Center is open year round. Complete with brochures, maps, and friendly faces to answer questions, this is a good beginning point for first-time as well as returning visitors to Beaufort. Residents frequent the Safrit Center to keep up-to-date on area happenings and to browse through the Old Beaufort Shop, the BHA's museum gift shop.

This reconstructed Georgian-style mansion was the first Colonial and state capitol building of North Carolina, which was completed in 1770. Tryon Palace Historic Sites and Gardens in New Bern offers interior tours led by interpreters, many of them in costume. The palace contains one of the finest collections of 18th and 19th century English and American antiques in the U.S. and is one of the most visited sites in the state. In addition to the Palace, visitors will find 13 gardens, three historic homes and the New Bern Academy Museum.
