Moore's Creek National Battlefield

The dramatic Battle of Moore's Creek was fought here in 1776, between Loyalists and Patriots of North Carolina. The park features a one-mile trail, historic bridge site and visitor center with exhibits and an audio-visual program.

This 728-foot warship is a symbol of naval warfare and victories during World War II, and is dedicated to the 10,000 citizens of North Carolina that lost their lives during that war. The ship has garnered the name the "immortal showboat" after surviving a direct torpedo hit in 1942, and today features exhibits on WWII history and personal accounts of life aboard a battleship.
Fort Fisher State Historic Site

The largest and strongest Confederate port during the Civil War, Fort Fisher was also the last to fall to Union forces. Today, visitors are invited to follow a half-mile tour around the fort remains and learn more about area Civil War history in the newly renovated visitors center.
Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson

Founded in 1726, the Town of Brunswick was a bustling shipping area and political center of the colony. The town declined after the Revolutionary War and the growth of Wilmington, and was largely forgotten until the Civil War. Then Confederate forces built a port at the site to as defense against Wilmington. Fort Anderson was the site of a major battle in 1865 that lasted three days, and ultimately, the Confederates were forced to evacuate. Today, there is a visitors center and several displays of artifacts from Brunswick and the Civil War.

Settled in the early 1700s, Orton Plantation is one of the oldest residences on the Cape Fear Coast. Used during the Civil War as a Union hospital, the house features 20 acres of gardens and 20 acres of self-guided walking paths.

Fort Caswell

Built in 1838, this Civil War fort was one of the strongest in the area. Today, the site is largely in tact, and is owned by the Baptist Assembly of North Carolina. The fort is open for self-guided visits Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon.
